Rabbis for Repro: A New Clergy Consultation Service?
With Samantha Gelberg
**Research completed**
In 2020 the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), a national advocacy organizing group representing Jewish women in the US, formed a group called “Rabbis for Repro.” NCJW’s goal is to educate and mobilize Jewish clergy to be a moral voice for reproductive health, rights, and justice. More than 1,500 rabbis, Jewish educators, and cantors, have signed the pledge to be a “Rabbi for Repro.” The goal of this research is to conduct a survey of members of the group in order to learn more about their motivations, goals, and the work they are doing as Jewish clergy or educators who advocates for reproductive health, rights, and justice. Most of what is known publicly about religious perspectives on abortion comes from anti-choice Christian movements. This research will illuminate the motivations and goals of pro-choice Jewish movements. The research has been approved by the IRB at Rutgers University [Pro2021002520].
If you are a Rabbi for Repro and you haven’t taken the survey, you can do so now!
